El Coto – Logo – lightgold.png THE HISTORY Coto Restaurante embodies a serene oasis along the winding Ronda road, nestled between the entrances of La Zagaleta and facing El Madroñal, offering majestic vistas of the Andalusian landscape extending to the Mediterranean Sea. Originally erected in 1978, the establishment, formerly known as “Meson El Coto” was under the stewardship of a Spanish family for many years before transitioning to other management. In August 2018, the decision to sell the property and its accompanying land led to its acquisition by the current owners. THE TRANSITION Upon acquisition, it became evident that substantial refurbishment was imperative due to the deteriorated state of the building. Chef Patron, Clive Rogers, articulated the project’s vision: to seamlessly integrate the restaurant with its natural surroundings while ensuring exceptional architectural design. Collaborating closely with local architect Juan Salvador Shvartzberg, Clive dedicated two years to meticulous planning, design, and securing necessary permits and licenses. Undertaken by Atlas Group, the renovation commenced in October 2020, commencing with the demolition of unauthorized structures added over time. Key to the process was the creation of a metal framework to reinforce the original building’s stability. UNVEILING OUR STORY Throughout the endeavor, a harmonious blend of materials inspired by the surrounding landscape was employed, with a keen emphasis on creating a visually striking yet unobtrusive architectural aesthetic. The exterior facade features imitation wood slats, complemented by floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that flood the interior with natural light, blurring the distinction between indoors and outdoors. Inside, wood elements abound, including wooden floors and wall panels, while the bar and bathroom countertops boast oversized porcelain. The custom-designed kitchen by Pilsa ensures culinary excellence, while the wrap-around terraces, shaded by mature cork oaks, offer an idyllic setting for al fresco dining. Meticulously crafted water features and gardens further enhance the ambiance. THE CONCLUSION After 22 months of meticulous renovation, Coto Restaurante unveiled its transformed space on August 10, 2022, inviting guests to embark on a culinary journey amidst unparalleled beauty, luxury, and tranquility.
